Live analytics for OpenEdge, often promised but rarely delivered

Analytics has evolved from simple business intelligence providing reports on a set schedule to become an integral part of business process. Increasingly analytics provides the glue between multiple apps employed across a business, delivering information that is critical for the day to day running of the organization. As a result live data in our analytics solution is more critical than ever, and the traditional business intelligence solution with a data warehouse populated overnight is becoming more and more redundant. This has become even more apparent as market leaders add alerting to their analytics solution. There’s not much point in receiving alerts on what happened yesterday!

However, providing live analytics in the real world is not simple. Anyone can connect their analytics solution directly to a business application and pull a few thousand records without a problem. But in reality, we want a live comparison of this year’s sales against last, which requires millions of rows of data. Extracting huge amounts of data with an ODBC connection against an OpenEdge database whilst the rest of the organization is trying to use it is not going to go well.

That’s why there is no analytics solution better suited to OpenEdge that DataPA OpenAnalytics. With over 10 years’ experience building analytics solutions for OpenEdge, we understand that there is no way of dragging millions of rows out of a live database in real time. That’s why our analytics engine employs a sophisticated strategy of extracting only what has changed, and combining that with historical summarized data to provide live dashboards in even the most challenging data environments. Why our solution has a managed connection to the database, not ODBC, so if someone does decide to pull millions of rows at peak times, the sales department will never notice and can continue to enter new orders.

There are many vendors who'll promise live analytics, but delivering on that promise in the real world takes years of experience. If you’ve not looked at DataPA OpenAnalytics before, why not contact us and see what we could achieve together?
